Happy Birthday to my little Boo!!!

One year ago today I had just given birth to my beautiful daughter Leda. I just sat in the room at Sonoma Valley Hospital thinking how crazy it is that I had just gone through my second pregnancy and am now holding my second child. I couldn't believe that my son was already a year and a half and that I was now a mother of two. Where did that time go. Well, here I am a year later and in complete disbelief that my baby girl is now a toddler (sniff sniff). It seriously flew by.

I've always loved the idea of a cake smash to commemorate a first birthday, so when I thought of what I should do for Leda's special photoshoot today I couldn't pass up the opportunity to do one of our own. The outfit may be a bit over the top, but you have to admit, it's pretty damn cute. She was so lady like in the beginning, just picking the little jellies off the top of the cake, but before I knew it she was sticking her foot in the cake. So much fun.

Wine Country Weddings | 11-11-11 at 3:33 | Part 1

On 11-11-11 at precisely 3:33pm Sarah walked down the isle at Saint Francis church to marry the love of her life, Christopher. Following the ceremony, guests were whisked off to Cornerstone Gardens for a tent dinner and barn reception. In between bursts of clouds and rain, we managed to venture outside for some fun shots in the gardens. I've always wanted to photograph a wedding there.

I first met the couple last year and then we met again early in the summer for their engagement session at Point Reyes which you can see here. We hit it off from the first day we met and by the time Sarah and Chrstophers' wedding came, I felt like I'd known them forever. Congratulations to the two of you!

Wine Country Baby Shower | It's a Boy

I had the pleasure of photographing a darling baby shower at The Collection Event Studio for Lauren. Her sister-in-law, Susie of Alison Events did a stellar job with the event design. Susie incorporated some innovative activities for family and friends to create fun memorabilia including a "Notes for Baby" station, and "Make a Mobile" table. The vegan cupcakes baked up by Fox and Fawn Cupcakes were so yummy! The event concluded with a wonderful baby blessing initiated by doula/midwife Kate Coletti. Congratulations to Lauren and her growing family. You're absolutely radiant.

Her mama Sarah has known me since I had my first baby and has seen my little ones grow, so it was very special for me to photograph her little girl. I had the pleasure of photographing a business professionals event hosted in the Sonoma Valley last month which featured some stunning event design. The one and only Julie Atwood along with Starshot Marketing was the creative force that brought this incredible, over the top party together for 30 people. They started their day at Ravenswood Winery for an elegant luncheon dished up by Ravenswood's own catering team in a tent full of Anne Appleman floral creations. Lunch was followed by a vineyard tour and meetings. The group then headed inside for a wine blending seminar hosted by Ravenswood winemaker, the "Godfather of Zin," Joel Peterson.

After a brief break, the professionals re-grouped at Julie's elegant country barn. Man, is she good! Once again Julie went over the top with an incredible sense of design and attention to detail. The space looked spectacular with floral arrangements by Maria Philbin and a gazillion candles (by far the most I've ever seen in one space). Beautiful!

Sonoma Weddings | Super Cool

I literally did the Running Man when William (friend and fellow journalist) called me to photograph his Saint Francis Church wedding. I've always really enjoyed being around this couple and all I can say about them is that they define super cool. Not everyone can carry the last name Cooley and live up to it, but these two definitely pull it off. William and I worked together at the Sonoma Sun (our local paper) and if I remember correctly, him and Teressa had already been an item for quite some time when we all met. They're perfect for each other.

There church wedding was followed by a fun reception at the Sonoma Community Center. I loved their custom made wine labels and mustaches on sticks for the guests. Congratulations you two!!!

Sonoma Cottage Inn and Spa Commercial Shoot

I've always wanted to go in to this place. From the outside it just looks like an inviting oasis of awww, so when I was asked to take some new photos of the Sonoma Cottage Inn and Spa, I gladly accepted. It's centrally located, just a block away from downtown Sonoma and is the prefect escape after a day of wine tasting and exploring the valley. My husband and I treated ourselves to a couple's massage here for his birthday and I must say, it was heavenly.

It seems like there's been a boom of babies being born here in the valley lately. Maybe it's just now that my youngest is closer to being a one-year-old than a newborn that I'm starting to take notice of all the little newbies. Being called upon to photograph brand new babies is such an honor and I loved every second of this newborn session. Baby girl Charlie was just shy of two weeks old when we had this session and I just adored all her sweetness.

Stefani and James are a very special couple. I have known her family ever since I was a little kid, and I was super excited when they asked me to be their wedding photographer. Everything from her sparkly Enzo Angiolini shoes to their burnt orange and navy color pallet was perfect. These two are totally in love with each other and are so much fun. The day was packed full of great moments like Stefani's father seeing his "little princess" in her wedding gown for the first time and the bridal party dancing down the isle. Beach Weddings | MaryBeth and Alec Wed at Muir Beach

I was so excited to photograph this simple and elegant Muir Beach wedding this summer, and absolutely loved everything about MaryBeth's and Alec's special day. When I first met this couple, I knew we would be a good match. They have a sense of humor with a bit of sarcasm and can keep a conversation quite entertaining. Moonie (the dog) was very much part of this day just as much as the bride and groom. Too cute!

Event planner, Jennie Janzen along with MaryBeth came up with a blue and apricot color scheme and kept things "coastal" by decorating with sand filled candle holders and shells. The candy table and photo booth was a big hit. The night was full of personal touches like Alec's hilarious nephew doing the reading during the ceremony (one of the best I've seen) and then a laugh out loud toast. The unique name spelled B-R-O-D-C-O-C-K which is a combination of their last names was printed on personalized match books and seemed to be the theme of the night. The night ended with everyone gathering around the outside bar to slam some Irish Carbombs, a favorite of the couple who met for the first time in their neighborhood bar. Such a fun group!

Becky and Trevor | Sonoma Engagement Session

Becky and Trevor are gearing up for their summer 2012 wedding in Texas, but wanted to have a fun and relaxed engagement session during Becky's brief trip to California. For the time being, Trevor's work has temporarily brought him out west, but the two manage to see each other every three weeks or so. They're both athletes and are particularly fond of triathlons.

We decided to head to downtown Sonoma for their session. We used Trevor's racing bike as a prop, and when Becky mentioned that sunflowers were going to be her wedding flower, I had to be sure to pick up a bouquet of the big yellow flowers and have them meet me at the Sunflower cafe.

Bay Area Commercial Photographer | Snowmass Colorado

Last month, I had the opportunity to spend six days in Snowmass Village, Colorado to photograph luxury villa rentals and surrounding landmarks for Beautiful Places. Photographing two 6,000 square foot homes per thirteen hour work days I barely had a chance to think about how much I missed my two kids and hubby, but I sure did immensely. Snowmass Village is a skiing community next to Aspen where many of the homes are ski in - ski out. One morning I headed out well before sunrise to photograph the very scenic, Maroon Bells and surrounding landscapes. There were definitely some incredible homes and incredible scenery way up in the Colorado mountains.

I love garden weddings. Everything about them is so quaint and fresh. Kelsie and Arom are the cutest couple and I had a wonderful time photographing their Healdsburg Country Gardens wedding. I absolutely loved her shortened garden dress and his sleek "Reservoir Dogs" style get-up. The shades of pink that were used in the bouquets and centerpieces created by Anne Appleman were gorgeous.

Arom, is a professional cameraman working on some projects for known networks such as Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, and Bravo, just to name a few, so when him and Kelsie asked me to photograph their wedding, I naturally was very flattered. Congratulations to the two of you!

This month I decided to attempt a theme for Milo and Leda's monthly "special" portrait session. I had this whole strawberry themed scene perfectly orchestrated in my head. The execution was all but perfect. Before I could even start snapping, Leda had squished strawberries all over the place and Milo scarfed the whipped cream off his short cake and jetted. My cute little bunch of sunflowers quickly became a whacking vice for Milo, and Leda kept tipping out the basket trying to b-line it for the strawberries. Anyway, perfection is totally over rated and my kids are absolutely amazing just the way they are.

Part One

This is Katy and Doug. I've blogged about them before when I did their mini portrait session last Valentines day and then again for a sneak peak of their July wedding. Well, here it is, their incredible Buena Vista Winery wedding revealed. I love everything about Katy and Doug. Her southern charm and his west coast swagger along with their classy style made for a truly elegant affair. Their love story is so sweet. They had known each other for years but by phone only. The companies they worked for where partners so they would spend countless hours working on accounts together, but it wasn't until the company Christmas party in Alabama that they would come face to face. It was love! Four months later they were engaged.

Katy and Doug both share a passion for food and wine and decided there would be no better place to bring their friends and family together than Buena Vista Winery. It was the first winery they visited when looking for the perfect place to have their destination wedding and they just fell in love with the venue. I don't blame them. The soft ivory and pink color pallet they choose fit so well with this ancient Sonoma winery which is known as one of the oldest in the valley. I feel so honored to have been part of Katy and Doug's special day. Congratulations to the two of you!

San Francisco Wedding Photographer ~ Susana and Loren ~ Day After

I posted about Susana and Loren's awesome Kenwood Gardens wedding several weeks ago and wanted to follow up by sharing some photos from their "day after" session. Susana had her heart set on having some photographs taken with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background so we headed for San Francisco where we first hit up the Legion of Honor building then moved to Baker Beach for the view of the bridge. It was the foggiest, coldest San Francisco day that I had experienced in a while, but these two Floridians were total champs and we got some great photos out of the day. This was a perfect way to wrap up the three days of events with this lovely couple.

Sonoma Wedding Photographer | Kenwood Gardens | Susana & Loren Part 2

When I first got the call from Susana back in April, she flattered me by saying that she'd already booked a photographer, but loved my work so much that she had to have me photograph her wedding. No pressure, right! When she described to me what she and Loren had planned for their wedding, I knew it was going to be a fun party.

In El Salvador, where Susana is from, performers work the crowd to get the party atmosphere going. That is why Susana and Loren decided to have a mascarade reception which included a stilt walker, juggler, table lady, masks, boas, and beads. So much fun! I haven't seen grandparents dance their booties off like that, ever. Some of my favorite highlights from the reception was the desert table, Catalystarts performing group, the photo booth, and everyone getting down to play Limbo. This was one lively party and I'm thrilled that they asked me to cover it.

I'm so excited to finally introduce this super sweet couple, Susana and Loren. I had the honor of photographing their incredible Kenwood wedding last month and truly enjoyed getting to know them and their family. There is so much I'd like to share from this wedding so I'm posting this as two separate entries: up until the party and then the party.

This is their story: Susana and Loren are both living in Florida. Susana is originally from El Salvador and Loren from Kenwood. She works in the travel industry and he works as a pararescueman in the Air Force. They met at at a night club while Loren was on a work trip in Destin, Florida, and as the town name says it, it was destiny that brought them to where they are today. They were engaged for just over a year staying tightly knit through Loren's extended deployments. Kenwood seemed like the perfect place for their destination wedding and they both agreed that Kenwood Community church and Kenwood Farms and Gardens would be the perfect backdrop to their day. It was the first time that many of their family members were able to meet each other.

Some of my favorite details of the day included the white draped fabric at the church, Susana's gorgeous Maggie Sottero dress and Bebe shoes. Her stunning hair and make-up was done by Salon 12 in Santa Rosa, and bouquets were created by family friend, Erica Krauthammer. All of the centerpieces and decor at the reception was the work of Lori at Kenwood Farms and Garden.

It's so bittersweet seeing my babies grow up so fast! Milo is growing into his own. He's basically moved on from baby to boy in a blink of an eye. This months milestones include him having full on conversations and telling stories, riding his bike (really fast), and big boy potty time. Leda, oh Leda, I can not believe she is already seven months. She is the sweetest little spitfire I've ever met. I see so much of me in her and am just bracing myself for what lies ahead especially once she master's this crawling thing (any day now). Kiddo's! I sure love 'em.

Well, as you know every month I like to do a "special" photo shoot of the kids. I've been so busy that I wasn't able to do something on their Month Days, but non-the-less, I'd like to share some recent favorites.

Wine Country Wedding Photographer ~ Made of Love

Meet Kerry & Norm, an exuberant young-at-heart couple who found their way to each other through this little thing we call the Internet. A mere 6 months after they met and many dates later, Norm knew she was the one and popped the big question. Kerry gladly accepted and their engagement would last well over a year. Between the two of them, there are seven lovely adult children (three of Kerry's and four of Norms). You would never know by seeing Kerry and Norm on their wedding day that this was a second marriage for both of them. They were totally like young kids just finding love for the first time, completely into each other.

Throughout the months of planning, Kerry (who is also kinda-sorta my Aunt by marriage), kept assuring me that her wedding was extremely modest and that I shouldn't expect to see anything extravagant. Her plan was to have family and friends help with everything from designing the flowers to catering the dinner. It was to be a homemade wedding made of love! To my complete and pleasant surprise, her family and friends where super talented and had created this gorgeous wedding full of vibrant colors and it wasn't modest at all.

Everyone involved in this wedding was either family or friends. The incredible bouquets and boutonnieres where designed by family friend, Brook H. (who's family business is Valley Flora). Brook and Kerry's daughter Alaina planted Kerry's backyard with flowers last spring to use for the bouquets, including the fresh strawberries. Brook and Alaina were also in charge of the table centerpieces decorated with fresh apples, cherries, blackberries and flowers. Whatever didn't come from the garden was filled in with purchased things. The incredible spread of food was catered by Kerry's book club and the cake was made by her two daughters. Wow! I could keep going and going about this wedding and how innovative they were to make this an incredible but affordable event.

~ The decorated champaign flutes and wine glasses were made for Kerry's daughter wedding last

summer and will be handed down to the next family members wedding.

~ The amazing cake was made by Kerry's daughter Kaily and Alaina (their 2nd wedding cake ever).

~ Wedding dance was choreographed by Edna Lucero (both Kerry and Norm are avid dancers).

~ Dress came from Wine Country Bridal.

~ Shoes are dance shoes with suede soles that Kerry picked up at a dance convention.

To My Grandma with Love

One month ago today, my Grandma Camie passed after complications following surgery to remove cancer from one of her lungs. Our family was hit hard and none of us were quite ready to say good-bye, but when the time came we all had to be strong and let her go. I have had the great fortune of having all my grandparents around well into my adult years until now, and with this loss all I can do is move forward with a greater respect for life and hold on to the memories that I have of my Grandma so I can share them with my children.

It just so happened that the Sonoma Relay for Life event was happening today and walking a couple laps around the high school track remembering my Grandma's life seemed like the best way to spend my afternoon. Thank you Emily at the IT for spreading the word with your awesome article.

To my Grandma with Love: I will miss you, and I will be sure to share your story with your great grandchildren. You were a wonderful woman who contributed to shaping my life and I thank you for that. Rest in Peace!!!

My Grandparents had this stellar, out of this world relationship that was full of love. Such an inspiration!

Milo and I created Luminaire's (a.k.a- bags with candles) in Memory during todays Relay for Life.

People walk as part of teams for a total of 24 hours in honor of those who have survived and those who have lost their battle to cancer. Relay for life is created by the American Cancer Society the leading organization in cancer prevention and research.

I wasn't able to stay until sun down, but these bags line the track and as night falls candles illuminate them.

All I can say is Julie (Atwood) should be arrested for creating cuteness of this caliber. She has totally outdone herself on this adorable vintage, tea cup wedding at the Atwood Ranch barn. This was a photographer's play land and I could have just kept going and going and going. If it weren't for time constraints, I could have photographed every single book, flower, tea cup, little wrapped menu... a dozen times over. So cute!

Some of my favorite touches included the gorgeous flowers including huge pink Peonies and Dahlia's, the table names which represent the couples favorite go to spots, the twine wrapped napkins, all the vintage collectables, and the dancing shoes under the Mr. and Mrs. Chairs.

Wine Country Weddings ~ Incredible Event Design- Part 1

OK! I've shot a lot of event design set-ups for Julie Atwood Events, and this for sure, is one of my favorites. You may recall the Ramekin's rehearsal dinner that I blogged about recently, well this is the same couple who had a dreamy vintage themed wedding out at Julie's ranch. There were so many incredible details that I had to divide this posting into two parts. Today I will share the ceremony/ cocktail hour spot on the ranch.

They chose to have their ceremony on the lawn with vineyard view. Guests were greeted by a beautifully designed lemonade station with fun details such as striped straws accented with tiny bows, succulents and lemons pouring out of old rusted vases and an array of antique lemon juicers. A vintage suitcase and a branch strung with photos of the couples life together was the centerpiece of the "guest card" table.

For the actual ceremony, talented floral designer, Anne Appleman, lined the isle with bouquets in mason jars. The pink Peony's where absolutely beautiful! The Chuppah style alter, built of branches and tied together with ribbon and silky fabric was so dreamy. Ahhh! Beautiful, mid summer wedding!

Happy Month Days Kiddos

It's that time again. Leda has reached her half year mark at 6 months, while Milo is now 2 years and 2 months old. As I do every month, I set up some special scenes capturing my kiddos in all there glory. One of my favorite photos of Milo is from his special 6 month portrait session and I even have a 16x20 of it hanging on my wall. So for Leda this month I wanted to replicate that shot that way I'd have side-by-side wall portraits. I love seeing the similarities and differences! For Milo, I have to be innovative these days. He will hardly sit in one place for too long, so my solution, wash the dog. Tiny (dog) loves playing in the hose, and Milo really enjoyed spraying her down.

If you haven't picked up a copy of the new Sonoma Magazine yet your missing some great articles about food in the wine country. I had the pleasure of contributing for this issue and loved this shoot with Therese Nugent who conjured up some outstanding recipes using Truffles (the mushroom delicacy, not the chocolate). Therese has been a foodie, culinary instructor, and writer for many years. You can find her hosting cooking demonstrations at Ramekins in Sonoma.

As for the truffle recipes in Sonoma Magazine, Therese came up with some great tips for using the fungus without breaking the wallet such as her delicious truffle mac n' cheese, and crunchy home made potato chips. You can find items such as butter, oil, salt, and paste all infuse with truffle goodness at Sonoma Market. Enjoy!

Once again, I had the pleasure of working with Julie Atwood Events on capturing all the wonderful details and overall images of her awesome event design. This time I was photographing a gorgeous, lavender infused, country picnic themed rehearsal dinner at Ramekins.

The things I love: La Tavola Linens in the banquet room; simple, yet elegant picnic tables and benches adorned with bunches of lavender and hurricane candle holders; bright veggie buffet centerpiece; pizza's cooked up by Ramekin's very own Doug McFarland; cucumber water, lavender lemonade, and ice tea jugs; and the gorgeous environment of Ramekin's courtyard.

Point Reyes Engagement Session

I am sooo looking forward to photographing this lovely couples wedding at Cornerstone Gardens and St. Francis Church in November. Meet Sarah and Christopher! I first met this couple early this year and we hit it off right from the start. Both of them are from coastal towns so it seemed only natural to have their engagement session near the coast on the Point Reyes Penninsula. We started at the Cowgirl Creamery in Point Reyes Station (excellent cheese!), then made our way out to the historic RCA Radio Station (as I like to call it, Cypress Row), and then over to my favorite beach, Limantour Beach.

Sonoma Portrait Photographer ~ Another Month Gone

As tradition goes, every month I take some special photos of my children on their month birthdays. It's hard to believe that Leda is now five months and Milo is over two years old. It goes by so fast! Two (babies) is my limit so I've gotta cherish these sweet little moments. That's why these monthly photos are so important to me. Despite all that is going on in life, I always make the time to capture these memories.

Happy 50th Anniversary to Sid and Carolyn. Their wonderful children along with their families treated the two love birds to a weekend getaway in Wine Country to celebrate their half century courtship. Wow! When asked what the trick to longevity was, Sid jokingly said, "learn to forget." In all seriousness, it's kinda true.

I had a wonderful time photographing this lovely family and as always, I honed in on the cuteness of five-year-old Alex who was a total trooper. I love, love, love, the love!

Sonoma Commercial Photography ~ I Had To

It's not very often that you'll find me running to homes to photograph them just for fun, but when I heard about this very special project, I had to check it out. I actually went specifically to photograph the nursery for an up and coming blog (more on this later), but when I arrived I was overwhelmed by the incredible talent of Jon Reiter Fine Home Building and the interior design folks from The Interior Design Society, Wine Country that I just had to take a few snaps. There were so many fun vignettes to photograph and each space was very unique. I literally had 15 minutes on day one, then returned the next morning for 30 minutes. Not much time at all!

Jon Reiter's design is inspired by European farmhouses and in fact, a good amount of the structural reclaimed material was collected in the south of France. The Interior Design Society puts together a showcase home when they find home that is a good fit and this is the first that they have done in 4 years. Wow, what talent! These designers did a fabulous job with the space. I soooo wish I could have spent more time there.

One week ago today, we celebrated Milo's 2nd birthday with a kiddo bash at our house. The theme: painting. I have no idea where I drew the energy to throw this little shindig, but it ended up pretty nice and Milo had tons of fun. I still have a hard time believing that I have a two year old and I'm throwing themed birthday parties. Life is sure different than before kids, but hey, it's totally worth it.

How did this happen? How did I become the mother of a 2 year old toddler? What a special day today was, celebrating Milo's 2nd Birthday. I can't tell you how much pride I have being mamma to this little angel of a boy. Since showing him photos of Niagra Falls yesterday, Milo has been walking around the house saying "waterfall?". So we set to Sugarloaf State Park for a short hike and to check out the waterfall. After that we headed to a super fun playground in Petaluma (one of my favorites). We busted out his most anticipated birthday present, a yellow bicycle, and he was so eager to learn. We're gearing up for his official birthday party this weekend.

We're gearing up for tomorrow's big 2 for Milo, but today we celebrate Leda's 4th month. Sticking with tradition, we did a special little shoot to document our growing little baby. I've hardly had any "extra" time this month to take photos of my kids around the house and have been itching to set some time aside. Good thing for this tradition. Happy Mother's Day

I love being a mother! I love having a mother! I am so grateful to have such a wonderful family.

When I picked Milo up from daycare the other day he handed me a vase (a plastic cup) with four precious flowers in it. The flowers were made from cutout tracings of his little hands taped to pipe cleaners. Attached was a note that said, "When you look at the petals of the flowers, my fingers are what you see. Someday when I am all grown up, you'll still have this memory. Happy Mother's Day."

So sweet and so true. All these moments (both challenging and gratifying) are held so close to my heart. I love my children with everything that I've got and I'm so proud to put them first. As a mother, I now know what my mom sacrificed for me. Thank you mom! Happy mothers day to you, to me, and to all the hard working, tender loving mama's out there.
